Navan Senior Men's welcomed Kildare side MU Barnhall to Balreask Old in round five of their Energia All-Ireland League Division 2A campaign.
Navan were seeking their first win of the season but knew that they would be in for a tough afternoon against the current fourth placed side aiming to be in the play-off picture come the end of the season.
Unfortunately for the home side it bore out that was within the first quarter with the visitors grabbing three tries in the first fifteen minutes racing into a 0-19 lead making the most of capitalising on early mistakes by Navan.
The home side reasserted their focus and got on the scoreboard when team captain Evan Dixon broke through from the centre to score to the left of the posts, outhalf Tom Gavigan added the conversation and further added to added to the home sides tally twelve minutes before halftime with a penalty kick.
However Barnhall finished the half strongly with another two tries to extend their lead going into the break.
The second half started as the first ended with the visitors adding to their talk with a penalty kick after a Navan infringement.
Navan re-grouped and put more determination into their play and we're rewarded with a try coming from centre Kyle Dixon scoring near the posts with Gavigan adding the conversation.
Barnhall though responded though on the hour mark with their hooker & Captain, Cathal Duff breaking through to grab their hat-trick try.
The home side didn't put their heads down and a third try, this time coming from full-back Rory Gordon gave hope to Navan trying to push on to seek a fourth try to at least come away with a try bonus point from the game. Barnhall's defence though held strong until the final whistle.
Navan will look to regroup before heading to Tipperary in a fortnight's time to face second placed Cashel in round six on Saturday 9th November.
